September Is Coming. What Is It Changing in Your House?

Let's Talk About Life...

Finding Answers, One Question at a Time

A Weekly Conversation about Your Everyday Concerns

September Is Coming. What Is It Changing in Your House?

There is something about the end of August that makes September feel like a beginning, even when nobody in the house is actually starting school. Vacations wind down, schedules return, children head back into classrooms, work seems to pick up again, and many of us suddenly feel that familiar pull to get organized, get focused, and get ourselves “back on track.” But while we're busy thinking about lunches, clothes, calendars, and everything that needs to be done, there are some much bigger changes happening underneath all of that.

This week, we wanted to look at the people going through the transition rather than just the transition itself.

For us as adults, September can be an opportunity to look at the last few months and decide what we want to carry forward, what has slipped away from us, and what we would actually like the next three months to look like. We've created something practical to help you do exactly that, because getting back on track doesn't have to mean returning to the same track you were on before summer began.

For our younger children, going back to school can mean entering a world that asks an enormous amount of them socially and emotionally, even when they appear to be adapting beautifully. They are learning much more than what is being taught in the classroom; they are watching how adults behave, discovering how friendships work, figuring out where they belong, learning what happens when something feels uncomfortable, and deciding who feels safe enough to tell when something isn't right.

Sometimes the child who appears to be handling everything well is doing far more work on the inside than we realize.

And then there are our teenagers, who seem to have mastered the extraordinary ability to need us and want absolutely nothing to do with us at almost exactly the same time. This week, we look at what is actually happening as our children begin pulling away, developing their own identities and allowing friends, media, and the outside world to have more influence. More importantly, we talk about what parents can do during those difficult years to protect the relationship without preventing the independence that needs to develop.

We haven't forgotten the rest of life either.

Mom takes us into Antonio's garden for Climate Watch, where there is a very different kind of growing happening, and we're also looking at some practical back-to-school support from Casaroma.

We take a closer look at our teens and what they are going through physically and emotionally, and how our teen skin collection can help.

Our Teen Skin collection is 20% off this week, giving teenagers simple, natural personal-care products designed specifically with this stage of life in mind.

For those of you who buy our products for Hair lice, we want you to know we've renamed our long-standing back-to-school products Get Out Of My Hair! — but its purpose hasn't changed. Do you like the new name? It's our natural hair-care line families have turned to when those very unwanted little visitors start travelling home from school. That collection is also 20% off this week.

There is quite a bit in this week's Wellness Letter, but it all comes back to one idea:

Everyone in the family is adjusting to something, and sometimes understanding what is happening underneath the behaviour, the busyness, or the change gives us a much better idea of what to do next.

So grab your tea or coffee and spend a little time with us. I think there may be a few moments in this week's conversations where you recognize your child, your teenager — or yourself.

Remember, We're Just a Phone Call Away. Our complimentary 10-Minute Reconnection Call is simply the online version of walking into our store and saying hello.
