Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha piperita)
We can easily recognize the familiar aroma of peppermint, but it also has great qualities as an essential oil.  It is invigorating and refreshing as well as cooling.  It can re-energize us in an afternoon slump and is traditionally used, perhaps along with orange essential oil, as a digestive aid.  It is also said to enhance the effectiveness of other oils when it is used in a blend.  A couple of cautions, though.. Use in small amounts.  It is very potent.  Avoid using near the face of babies and young children.  It is not recommended in baths, and its use at bedtime might keep you awake!
