Clove Bud Essential Oil (Syzygium aromaticum) – Indonesia
Clove bud essential oil is steam distilled from the dried flower buds of the clove tree, producing a rich, spicy, and warming aroma. Traditionally valued in herbal and folk medicine, clove has long been associated with oral care, digestive support, and relief of muscular tension. Its bold fragrance adds depth to seasonal blends, room sprays, and natural cleaning products.
Common Uses:
Added sparingly (and well diluted) to massage oils for easing muscle or joint discomfort
In very small amounts in natural oral care formulations, such as tooth powders and mouth rinses (with professional guidance)
Diffused to create a warm, comforting, and purifying atmosphere
Included in natural cleaning blends for its deodorizing qualities
Safety Considerations:
Clove bud essential oil is exceptionally potent due to its high eugenol content. This makes it one of the more skin-sensitizing essential oils. It must always be used in very low concentrations (generally no more than 0.5% when blended for topical application). Direct use on the skin, even when diluted, may cause irritation in sensitive individuals. Avoid use during pregnancy, with infants and young children, and for those with sensitive skin, liver conditions, or who are taking anticoagulant medications. Clove bud oil should never be ingested. Use sparingly in diffusion, and always keep away from the eyes, mucous membranes, children, and pets.
